Stardust
by Rorie Newman
from where we lay
above
on the bed
navy sheets
speckled
with powdered
sugar from
a midnight
snack
I tell you
I’m scared
of the monsters
under the bed
you whisper
me too
as you press a kiss
to my head
and as your
lips
fall from
my temple
we gently
tumble
over the edge
socked feet
arching knees
bending heads
bowing
only
to discover
shimmering flecks
hopping within the space
above
the floor
stardust
bunnies
glittering warm
under the bed
static
electric strands
of my
hair and
your hair
and pre-solar grains and
maybe i don’t
need
to be
afraid
